The term workspace includes all the tools, objects including furniture and buildings that comprise the areas where work is done.

Most knowledge work happens in offices that may or may not have natural light, natural air circulation and usually have office specific furniture.

Each worker inside a workspace should have a certain degree of control over its position, the amount of light they have, the amount and quality of the air that they breathe, the level of noise and vibration they are subject to.

Workspaces are interesting because they are at the core of productivity: the workspace has the biggest direct influence on productivity, right after the attention, alertness and focus of the individual worker.

We explore workspaces as part of productivity at length in a number of articles on this site.
