Begin a Presentation By Telling Your Audience Why They’re There – Part 4

Written by Matteo Cassese

Your presentation just started, you’ve introduced yourself, and now you are in front of your audience. They showed up, and that’s awesome. The reason was strong enough to attend but is it strong enough to listen to you.

You will need to provide your audience with a motivation to follow through and listen to you till the end of your presentation. And you do so by providing a sample of the outcome of your presentation. This means showing not telling. It means practically giving a little bit of that advantage beforehand and not talking about that advantage.

What will they gain from your presentation? But more importantly, how will they be transformed by following your presentation till the end? Do it early in your presentation because your audience might get distracted really, really soon. For example: I would tell you and I would promise you that you will get better at presenting, but I would immediately provide you with the techniques to research and know your audience, thus showing you, in a practical manner, how this is true.

Summary:

  • Bring your audience from reasons to motivation and do so by
  • Providing a sample of the outcome

Who is Matteo Cassese?

Hi! I’m a marketing consultant and an enthusiastic entrepreneur with experience working for multinational companies (Warner Bros.), teaching at a university (Link Campus University), and consulting for entertainment companies (Netflix). I’m a scholar of storytelling and have dug deep into screenwriting techniques, mythology, and trans-media narratives. This passion is translated in the simple structure template that you get in all my courses. In my free time I enjoy driving cars (fast).
