In this lesson we are going to find ways to get inspired because we have to work on our own visual style. And to do that, we have two different ways.
The first way is to start collecting what you like, and I suggest taking smartphone pictures, that you start taking screenshots, and you collect in a folder all the stuff that you find inspiring, or images that you find balanced, or the ads that capture your attention.
The second thing that you can do is to go on the web and find some websites that provide that inspiration on demand when you need it. I have 7 suggestions for you:
The first one is Slideshare, it’s the most popular slide sharing website on the planet and it features a ton of presentations.
The second website I’m suggesting is Speaker Deck, it’s similar to Slideshare but it’s more focused on tech presentations.
Note and Point, contrary to the first two, is a hand-curated platform that selects only the presentations that look that much better.
Tumblr can be a great tool to find visual inspiration. You just need to input the right keyword in the search box.
Pinterest is also a great tool. It’s a little bit more business friendly than Tumblr and you can find a ton of inspiration, for instance, in infographics
My last two tools are Designspiration that is a tool that lets just browse through great visual examples and Behance where a lot of creatives upload their portfolios, so you find all the latest trends here.
Summary:
- Start collecting what you like; create a place where you collect and save all the stuff that is visually stimulating for you.
- Whenever you need to start a new presentation, spend a little bit of time on the web to get some great visuals before you start working on your own
